As much as inside sources in the police confirmed that the Manager of a national private bank was trapped and arrested from the Feroze Gandhi market on Saturday late evening, when he tried to extort Rs 10,000 from a client, for passing one of the bank loans.

The SSP, and SP City I of Ludhiana and police incharge at Division No 5 police station declined any information about the FIR.
This is the first of its kind case, considering while the police and government is in a constant endeavour to curb the menace of government officials seeking bribes, where in the accused are generally arrested under the corruption act.
The manager heading a leading private bank was booked under the extortion act, rarely witnessed in private sector, where the customer is considered the king.
It was learnt that the FIR No 482 of September 20, 2003 was lodged, and later by the night was withdrawn. It was also learnt that the local police sought the help of the Vigilance Wing in Ludhiana. The Vigilance Wing helped to set the trap for the manager, which proved successful. On the manager''s arrest the local police lodged an FIR.
The shopkeepers adjoining to the bank, say a few hundred people had gathered around the bank premises, when the raid was conducted on Saturday, and the manager was arrested.
